Chapter 20 – The Goddess and The Imp Chapter 2

As if I had been born into the demon’s layers, the filth of the world knew me from rebirth. They used me, enslaved me, muzzled me, and muted me. They consumed and drained, taking from me everything I had.

But my magic ran deep.

In the rain, I would dance and replenish my truth. In the moonlight, I would bathe and heal. And during the day, they would rent my magic from me.

There wasn’t a single moment that I couldn’t fight my way out of.

And all the while, I knew there was something about me… I belonged somewhere else. I was meant to be someone else. And one day, I would escape my prison and find it.

One day, I finally did. When the last of the demons had finished with me, he threw me away and I didn’t have to wait a single day.

I ran. As far away from that hell hole as I could.

Something was out there. Something was calling me. I was finding clues and validations that I was on the right road. With every step, I found myself closer to the thing that called me.

I was looking for something. The closer I got, the more I realized I was looking for someone.

I went through hundreds of people. Searching, looking, exploring. I back packed through the City. I scanned countless faces for a pair of brown eyes.

I was tired. I was exhausted. I was lost.

So many parts of me wanted to give up. And I kept going. Until…

A certain imp with a mischievous grin, and a playful twinkle in his warm brown eyes gave me pause.

And in that moment, all the world stopped.

In that moment, I stopped my search.
